Getting Live Messenger to recognize MAC video camera
Many more USB devices will work as long as you install the appropriate Mac driver software (from the device manufacturer). They used to supply a Firewire video camera (iSight) for use with iChat, but stopped making it a while ago. Most Mac models now have a built-in camera (except for the Mac Mini and Mac Pro).

Thanks for that Jon, I have a Creative Labs VF0040 and there doesn't seem to be a mac driver for it :o( I'll have to consider something else I spose Thanks If you can find a used Dlink firewire webcam, they are a good cheap alternative to the iSight, plus has the bonus of also working with iChat [1] if needed.

USB controller and driver for iSight inside iMac(G5)?
In part because of that, I decided against the iSight--too much to spend for something I'll rarely use. Unfortunately, there aren't all that many Mac compatible webcams around. I did find the IOExperts webcam drivers, <http://www.ioexperts.com/> but the supported cameras don't seem to be all that readily available.

I didn't find the time to adapt it to Windows, though. Look at the code in otherlibs/highgui/cvcap_qt.cpp  Also, (at least in the CVS OpenCV), there is code for using the CMU IIDC DCAM driver in OpenCV on windows.

Like a driver for some other USB device? FWIW Even though you have the "older" G5, it's still a really nice machine. Both my brother's MacBook and my iMac use the internal iSight camera. it's Apple software, apple hardware and apple users, and it still doesnt work.
